I ve been supervising and mentoring other counsellors for around twenty years following training with the University of Strathclyde. As a supervisor I have focussed on building a relationship which allows supervisees to discuss aspects of their work they feel uncertain about, and what to do about that.
In this work I am strongly guided by my person-centred background, and I use it both with trainee and experienced counsellors. The closest theory to my perspective on supervision is contained in a book called Freedom to Practice , which outlines how person-centred supervisors can offer the core conditions to their supervisees, and by doing so increase their congruence to clarify and amend issues they might be having with their work.
Supervision sessions are charged at the same rate as counselling sessions, but I will charge extra for any reports required, based on an hourly rate of £15 per hour for that work.
As in my counselling work I offer prospective supervisees a short free session to assess our compatability and discuss arrangements.
I appreciate a supervision contract is a big commitment so don’t expect either an immediate response from that session, or that you wont be checking out other supervisors – indeed I d encourage you to do this- but I hope you ll be able to see clearly what I could offer at that point.
